For more info, you could also read through the thread on reddit: link

LewdGamer also covered a lot about this too: link

ChuableSoft also posted another tweet asking western fans about cut and uncut versions: link

I wouldn't discount Sekai just yet. although that's just me.

But yeah, from a business perspective, even I wouldn't take chances. There's a good chunk of chances Sekai will fuck up, so better go with MG or Jast. Yes, Jast, even if they're notorious with delayed releases.

I skimmed through a couple titles, and they seem best for Mangagamer since Mangagamer has more moege and nukige than JAST. They also have more of a presence on Steam than JAST though to be fair, Sekai Project has more of a presence than MG.

In general, Sekai Project is too unprofessional to trust. It better not be them, or the NISA tier company I dare not name.

I'm a bit embarassed that ChuableSoft's president ended up reading that LewdGamer article and commenting on it on Twitter. I did the fact checking and Twitter translations for it. I argued that the article needed to be completely rewritten, but I was overruled.

I would personally prefer Mangagamer get the deal.

Say what you will about some of the dubious titles they pick up, they are the most consistent company in my opinion.

I would recommend them MoeNovel if it wasn't designed for Pulltop.

Better games? Or games that fit my tastes better if you prefer.
I intervened because I saw everybody thinking about the best for ChuableSoft but no a single time what people think about ChuableSoft, if they are actually worth a translation. Because, yes, translations are precious. And I don't want them in the planning of MG or JASTUSA.Last modified on 2015-08-07 at 03:21

There are some Chuablesoft titles I want to play so I hope they get a translation arrangement going.

ChuableSoft has games that score around 80 on EGS. That's better than a lot of the stuff MG releases.

I mean, I don't see any "must-play" titles in their lineup for me, but I think it's cool that a pretty well-regarded developer is reaching out to the English audience.

Honestly, I don't care for 90% of the VNs released in English, and most of the games I want to play I could play in Japanese if I really wanted to. If I booed every title I didn't care for, I'd be whining almost nonstop. "Why are you releasing Clannad instead of Ikusa Megami Zero?!?!"Last modified on 2015-08-07 at 06:07

And FMA Brotherhood is 1th on MAL followed by Steins;Gate while Evangelion is 200th. Is it supposed to have a meaning?

^ that's a very biased comparison. Evangelion has been more than a decade ago.

Evangelion is supposed to be less good than actual shows?
I don't know anyone that found Brotherhood better than the first series and S;G was co-directed by the most underestimated director who made true Pieces Of Art like Texhnolyze or Shigurui with the most mind-blowing direction that I know. With Texhnolyze we are talking about a team made of Ueda, Abe, Mizoguchi or Konaka Chiaki, not a drudge like Hayashi Naotaka who can't write two lines of pseudo-SF without tripping over the carpet. But like it's Nitroplus stuff, it's 2nd lol ptdr roflmao.

Sure man whatever. Just because you think your taste is so much better than everyone else's it doesn't mean it's true. Astraythem and Byakko are considered to be good titles and many VN fans would be glad to read them.

Well, I agree on taking things like scores with a grain of salt (look at mahoyo's scores on EGS for example, where they complain about the absence of H-scenes) but...

I don't know anyone that found Brotherhood better than the first series

Are you serious? lol

EGS scores are worthless. The Japanese using this site are mainly moetards, so it's only natural that crappy moege are on top of the list.

eacil's analogy isn't so bad. Evangelion has clearly more "value" than FMA Brotherhood or Steins;Gate. And this isn't a matter of personal taste, it's a historical fact. IIRC Hiroki Azuma even wrote an essay about why NGE is a milestone in the history of anime.
And that's the problem with using EGS scores (or any other public voting site for any medium). It's only a representation of what's popular, not what's "good" (whatever this means).
I guess some people think EGS is some sort of authority because it's Japanese and the Japanese must surely know it best, right? .. eh, no. I'm always disappointed when I do research on some erogames and EGS has nearly no information nor votes for those games. Not just obscure titles but also games which were popular ten years ago. So not only represents EGS only what's popular, but also only what's popular in the last few years in this specific niche (mainly moe). And that may very well also be the problem with why Evangelion is only 200th on MAL when it should be far higher. (Again, not a matter of personal taste. Evangelion IS one of the most popular anime of all time. That's not debatable.)

So I really wish people would stop using votes on something as an argument.

Let's take a look at the data accessible to the English audience for a typical Japanese-only title.

English synopsis (may or may not be machine translated or useful)
VNDB scores
EGS scores

Now ask yourself: which of these data points is most useful for reaching a conclusion about the potential appeal / viability of this title in the West?

Saying a piece of data is imperfect as a metric is NOT an argument against using it when there's no better alternative.Last modified on 2015-08-07 at 18:05

The EGS scores are better than vndb's because they reflect the actual quality of the game and not some fucking awful translation (i.e. Cross Channel or Kazoku Keikaku). And vndb is far more popularity-based than EGS since it uses the stupid Bayesian system or whatever that literally factors popularity into the overall rating, making it completely useless for anything.

Either way, I don't give much of a shit about scores myself since I read the reviews on EGS instead. Which tyr can't read because he uses machine translators lol

Yeah, no.
Most EGS reviews are worthless, too. Of course, there may be one or two with some interesting thoughts, but that's certainly not the majority. Funny enough, for many of the games I care about I read more interesting comments here on vndb than on EGS.
Also, I use kanji parser like nearly everyone else here who reads Japanese games. I don't rely on MTs. So stop your ad hominem please. It's getting very old.
